McDonalds Salisbury

summary

Mykra was contracted to manage the construction works to the Alfresco and Playland together with the internal refurbishment of the McCafe and Dining Room at McDonalds Salisbury. The works comprised removal of the existing Alfresco seating area and Playland facility, refurbishment to the existing Party room, redesign and re-fit of the McCafe area and new drop ceiling to the main Dining room with new graphics throughout.
The existing areas were constructed on a raft slab with a lightweight steel frame clad in cement based sheeting with a painted finish. Although the Alfresco was an open area it was condensed and cramped. The Playland was not contusive with current thinking and was thus removed. We always endeavour to use local trades for developments.
The exception being the nominated Playland suppliers from Melbourne who do all McDonalds in Australia. The layout of the Playland/Alfresco was rearranged giving both largerfloor areas and easier accessibility for families. The new construction is similar to the existing with the exception of insulated roof sheeting. The floors have anti-slip tiles with LED lighting. New furniture and a state of the art Playland were installed.
Internally the McCafe area was modernised with new wall tiling, cupboard doors and menu boards to give a clean and sharp appearance. The main Dining room was very noisy due to the height of the ceiling. We addressed by installing an acoustic drop ceiling complimented by new LED lighting.
The extension and refurbishmentof the store includes the latest Playland, Furniture, Décor and Signage from McDonald’s. It looks absolutely stunning at night. The owners are delighted with the product which has increased their turnover significantly. Mykra was very proud to have been involved and we were thrilled at the programme outcome achieved by our skilled team.

challenges

The orientation of the buildings proved challenging, but not insurmountable, due to the squint external corner, which made scaling from elevations unworthy. Our start date was just prior to the very busy Easter period where productivity was affected by trade RDO’s and Public Holidays. We worked closely with the owner to meet his requirements, modifying our programme to ensure the steelwork, and the cranes required for the install, had nominal impact on the store’s busiest periods. We encountered many latent events underground during the project but all variations were dealt with professionally and promptly by the management team without impacting the practical completion date. Our suppliers and contractors were all regularly informed with project progress and issued with revised programmes in good time as necessary. We were tasked with achieving practical completion within a ten week timeframe. However, through effective management and attentive planning we achieved this in nine weeks.
