summary

This project involved the internal refurbishment of three school buildings with new outdoor learning areas, the refurbishment and extension of the Administration Building, and the construction of a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) building.

Works involved the full internal demolition of walls  ceilings, services, wet area and some external walls to make way for new doors to the outdoor learning areas.  Construction of the new building elements and finishes included linings, flooring, wet area, aluminium & glazing, services, external decking, landscaping and fencing.

challenges

Being a full internal refurbishment, the buildings were  transformed from being dark, dated and stale to a much more modern, bright & airy, and colourful environment for the students and teaching staff.  The main design elements of note are:

  • Extensive use of glazing (internal and external) for optimum levels of natural light
  • Bright colours used for joinery, pinboards & floor coverings
  • Open common / hub areas & traditional GLA classrooms
  • Purpose-built classroom wall joinery including teachers desk, smart boards & storage
  • New mechanical systems with automatic fresh air introduction
  • New LED lighting systems, high speed comms cabling & WIFI access
  • Fully fenced, landscaped, secure outdoor learning areas
