Project Scope: Barossa Eye Clinic
The Barossa Eye Clinic project was located in Barossa Valley at Gawler, north-east of Adelaide. The project involved the construction of the new medical building on the historical site located in the heart of Gawler, with existing heritage retort house structures to the rear. The new build of a state-of-the-art eye clinic with high quality aesthetic finishes to the interior and exterior with custom joinery work, sandstone and extensive timber veneers.
Key challenges for the project team included the restoration work to the heritage listed site, with work done with the client to ensure the existing buildings original features retained while becoming a useable building. Existing site conditions were also a challenge with the terrain being quite uneven with large amounts of siteworks and landscaping completed for the project. Being a medical facility the services fit out was quite expensive with gases, controlled HVAC and significant electrical works. Mykra worked with the client through a number of added services provisions during the construction, including a sizeable redesign of the electrical scope and relocation of mechanical plant. During the works the site engineering evolved and the piling scope changed around an underground tank that was discovered during excavation. The client also increased the decorative Aliwood scope.
Build during the peak of Covid impacts and delays, Mykra were able to keep construction progressing with good consistency and achieve the client’s end timeframe.
