Mykra were engaged to refurbish the existing 70m2 amenities block, install a new 16m disability access ramp and undertake structural strengthening works to the existing roof trusses in the heritage hall. The amenities refurbishment included a layout change and addition of a new DDA compliant toilet. The strengthening works required removal of roof sheets, installation of steel hold downs and welding of stiffening equal angle steelwork.
The original ramp was designed as insitu concrete, however due to the ground level rise and adjacent retaining walls this design wasn’t going to be achievable. Collaborating with the council and project architect, Mykra engaged an engineer to provide an alternative solution and changed the ramp design to a 450mm bored pier system with 75SHS columns and 150PFC beams, with a steel mesh flooring.
Throughout the build the Council added a number of other items to the project including a new perimeter footpath around the amenities block, addition of autodoors to the DDA toilet, temporary toilets for the tenant use during construction and extra painting works to the heritage hall. Mykra also proposed cost savings for alternative wall lining to the amenities which helped fund the additional works across the site.
The project highlighted our capabilities in toilet upgrades, external civil works, and structural rectification. We received praise from the Council and stakeholders for our value-added contributions. Our proactive solutions played a crucial role in delivering a high-quality final product, emphasizing our commitment to effective problem-solving and collaboration.
