James Brickworks Interpretive Upgrade
$412,000
Project Scope: James Brickworks Interpretive Upgrade
This project involved clearing machinery and vegetation to prepare the site for an external upgrade. This included new fencing and paved areas, new concrete paths, interpretive signage displaying the heritage nature of the site, and the construction of a steel canopy to preserve kiln two. The site is under local council heritage listing so preservation of existing elements was top priority. Underground ventilation tunnels from the kilns were located to ensure the footings for the canopy did not disturb the tunnels. The fragile state of the kilns was such that they could not be entered without overhead protection, nor touched in any way during construction of the canopy above.
