Project Scope: The Heights School STEM Works
The Heights refurbishment project was a significant undertaking that transformed three existing buildings and added a new maintenance shed, greatly enhancing the school’s facilities. Building 1 underwent a 400m² internal refurbishment, creating modern student computer spaces and home economics classrooms. Building 3 saw a substantial 700m² renovation to create laboratory facilities, which now include two 50m² covered outdoor testing areas, expanding the practical learning environments. Building 6 was reimagined into a versatile 450m² general learning space, featuring a striking circular joinery pod as a central highlight. Additionally, a new 210m² maintenance shed and workshop were constructed adjacent to the existing car parks, providing essential support for the school’s operations.
“The layout of the site presented significant challenges, particularly with the civil works for Building 3 located on the backside of the school, approximately 150 meters from the main entry and car park areas. Maintaining school operations throughout the project required meticulous safety management and coordination with various stakeholders, as the work was carried out during the school term. This complexity necessitated a high level of coordination to ensure the safety of students and staff while minimizing disruption to the school’s daily activities.
Throughout the various buildings, vibrant joinery and high-quality furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) were standout features, contributing to an inviting and modern aesthetic. The project also included extensive service fit-outs for the new STEM areas, with a particular focus on the science laboratories. Enhancements in audiovisual (AV) services and an expanded computer suite further enriched the school’s technological infrastructure.
In summary, the Heights refurbishment project not only modernized and expanded the school’s facilities but also ensured that the enhancements were seamlessly integrated with ongoing school activities, maintaining a high standard of safety and coordination throughout.”
